Manhattan Open 2011

The Manhattan Open was held from August 17-21, 2011 at the New Yorker Hotel, 481 8th Ave at 34th St. (across from Penn Station), New York, NY.
IM Vladimir Romanenko and GM Alex Shabalov were tied at the top of the Open Section, both finishing with an unbeaten 7/9. Romanenko led the tournament from start to finish and was only caught by Shabalov after he drew his final game with GM Giorgi Kacheishvili and Shabalov beat GM Alex Lenderman.
However, Romanenko was still declared the winner having a better tie-break score than Shabalov and also, possibly more important to the Belorussian, was that his performance was good enough to earn his 3rd and final GM norm. This should secure him the title having gone over the required FIDE 2500 rating back in 2009. Congratulations Vladimir!
Romanenko earned 5390 USD, while Shabalov bagged 5250 USD.
There was also another norm scored in the Open Section as Parker Zhao beat two GMs on his way to scoring an IM norm.
76 players competed in the Open section, with 13 Grandmasters and 15 International Masters in the field.

Dan ketika kita mendapatkan apa yang kita inginkan,

Akhirnya kita tahu bahawa yang kita inginkan

Terkadang tidak dapat membuat

Hidup kita menjadi lebih bahagia.
