Untitled Matthew Herman (USA) is the surprising winner
The 31th edition of the International Chess Tournament "Memorial Crespi" was held on 4-11th December 2010, at the "Società Scacchistica Milanese" in Milan, Italy.
Nearly 300 players competed in five separated events: Master (9 rounds, elo over 2000, for GM and IM norm), Torneo Open "A" (7 rounds, elo 1750-2050), Torneo Open "B" (7 rounds, elo under 1800), Torneo Under 16 (5 rounds) and Torneo Open "C" Promozione (5 rounds, elo under 1500).
The main Master group featured 69 participants, among which were six Grandmasters. The surprising winner is Matthew Herman from the United States, who edged four GMs on better tiebreak and claimed the first place. Herman also performed for his first IM norm. Heiko Mertens from Germany also won an IM norm, the second in his career.
