The Carlsbad formation

Since last week the Internet Chess Club (ICC) is showcasing a new series named The QGD: Carlsbad pawn formation, by by FM Valeri Lilov. The author shows us the keys to playing this quintessential opening. The full series includes 6 lessons.
In the Carlsbad formation, White has a choice of plans: to prepare the advance e2-e4, or to play the minority attack. White has weaknesses on c4 and often e4. Black will use the e4 post to develop a kingside attack.
