Mae's playing for high stakes
ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD Mae will battle it out this Friday in a high altitude chess duel to launch the Chess Kids national championships.
The Patterson Lakes Primary School student - Victoria’s top female primary-aged player - will take on Victoria’s best, Karl Zelesco, 300m above Melbourne in a glass room off the side of the Eureka tower.
Mae said she was very excited about the game and believed she could win.
School principal Stan Szuty said the school was very proud of Mae’s achievement.
“This profiles chess as a wonderful game at our school and places our local area on the map,” Mr Szuty said.
Chess coach Christian Bennett said Patterson Lakes had beaten 49 other schools to win bronze at last month’s Chess Kids state finals.
The national championships are on November 29-30 at Monash University, Clayton.
