Sofia and other no draw rules are not needed for women's chess events. After 7 rounds of the Doha Grand Prix, about 75% of all the games ended in decisive results (11 draws in 42 games)! In round 7, all 6 games were decisive, with Black and White each won 3.
What's even more stunning is that three of the former women's world champions are tied for last place. This is how hard fought and competitive this tournament has been so far.
