The 61st Russian Women's Chess Championship

Yesterday in Ivanovo, Russia the Opening Ceremony of the 61st Russian Women’s Chess Championship (1st League) was held.

The venue of the tournament is the Municipal Palace of Children’s and Youth Creativity. 89 chess players are taking part in the Championship. Rating-favorite is the Woman Grandmaster Stepovaya Tatyana.

The Mayor of Ivanovo Mr. Vladislav Sverchkov greeted all the participants and guests. He announced the opening of the Championship! Afterwards the military students brought in the flag of the Russian Federation and the national anthem was played.

The International Organizer Mr. Sergei Solonets read the congratulatory letter from the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
